The closing hymn at a celebration of life for a good friend was this:   “Let there be peace on earth and let it begin with me. Let there be peace on earth, the peace that was meant to be. With God as our father, brothers all are we. Let us walk with each other in perfect harmony. Let peace begin with me, let this be the moment now. With every step I take, let this be my solemn vow To take each moment and live each moment in peace eternally. Let there be peace on earth and let it begin with me.” UMH#431 After some thought, I wasn’t surprised that this hymn was chosen to close the service for this person who was always a difference maker in the lives of people all her life. And I thought a little further about the words in this song. These thoughts brought to mind a challenge for all of us. Here’s how: We can pray every day for our country and for those leading to consider the good of the people, rather than themselves. We can pray every day for our leaders to show their maturity in their speaking and in their leading of those around them. We can make sure that if someone snubs us or talks against us that we pray for them and not stay away from our organizations, but continue to show forgiveness and work for the good of others. We can continually work toward forming disciples for Jesus Christ for the transformation of the world by being difference makers in our towns, our churches, our homes, everywhere we go. We can work for building up our churches and congregations by accepting the people God has created…for He has created everyone. Show love as God showed love in creating us. Let’s challenge each other to make a difference! Let’s challenge each other to pray every day that each one of us can be a part of making “peace on earth”! Let us choose to be one of those to pray for and work for peace in our own environment. Dear Lord….We pray for our world, our nation, our communities and our churches to have peace and to offer ourselves as peace and difference makers. Show us the way you would have us work in your world. Amen.     Blessings….Pastor...
